Thomson Elite Seatpost Review
I am one of those individuals who fit between sizes on most bike frames. I have oddly short legs and a long-ish torso. In overall height, I fit on a Large, but my leg length is more suited to a Medium.
My Norco is a Medium frame which fits me very well, especially once I lengthened the cockpit with a longer stem. But the stock seat post was a little too short for placing my seat in the right spot.
I like to run my mountain bike seat a half-inch lower than my road bike seat, and the 350mm Norco post was too short.
I picked up a 400mm RaceFace Deus post, but the seat clamping mechanism clamps the seat rails from the sides, not the top, and the carbon rails on my Flite Carbino saddle are too ovalized to fit the RaceFace clamp. So the RaceFace was exchanged for a Thomson Elite, 30.8mm diameter x 410mm long.
Thomson's seatposts are famous for being well-nigh indestructible, and it uses the necessary top-clamp mechanism - so it worked.
As far as weight is concerned, it is mildly heavier than the RaceFace, but quite a bit lighter than the Norco (and in a longer length too!)
So far, it has held up to 218 lbs of me bouncing up and down on top of it and it hasn't bent, nor has it cracked the seat rails on the saddle. Recommended.
